The Irish Premiere of the documentary film Village by the Sea took place at The Copper Coast Geopark Centre in Bunmahon on Saturday, the 15th of December 2012. The audience of over 70 people were treated to some surprise performances before the film including this wonderful performance by Deirdre Starr of The Flower of Magherally that is also featured in the film. Deirdre dedicated the song to her friend Michael Heath, the Director of the film who was with us in spirit from his home in New Zealand. We hope to see Deirdre back in the new year for a full concert in this wonderful space and former church in Bunmahon. To hear more of her work please visit her website here; www.deirdrestarr.com The film Village by the Sea was shot in Bunmahon in March 2012 and retraces the footsteps of Edith Collier, the New Zealand artist who came to Bunmahon in 1914 and 1915. Her paintings of this small Irish coastal village and the people she encountered are featured throughout the film alongside many contemporary interviews with local people and dramatic footage of The Copper Coast. I’m sure Edith Collier was with us in spirit and the performances and film were warmly received by the audience and a great night was had by all.
